Book Review – A Place For Us.

A Place For Us is weaved with the subtleties that breathe within a family, the grief that devastates, the pain that lingers yet the warmth as well as ache of memories that stays tucked in our hearts no matter how far we move beyond to seek the place for us. Like the path connecting us to somewhere else yet making sure we ain’t lost, the author has weaved the threads of present opening at the wedding of Hadia to the past where all of the characters were untouched by the ache of life. The characters grow as you move through the story while living the consequences of words, gestures, intentions, & even silence.
• Throughout the book, the storytelling craft of author is  throbbing with the pace of life. I instantly connected to the characters & felt pain, bliss, & anxious for them for I read their unfiltered thoughts from childhood, of hope, longing & even guilt that stayed with them while they grew in their own ways. It was heartbreaking for me to read what it feels to be a father acting tough outside yet brimming with love on inside.
• The shift from present to past & back with each truth unfolding either makes you angry or sad ;  you feel a part of the story even though it’s not yours. This, too, you could either love or feel annoyed at.
• I felt some elements of the story were a bit dragged & could’ve been avoided too. While some events which could’ve been used to mould some of the aspects of the story weren’t given enough space. Also, at one or two instances, I couldn’t resonate with how faith was perceived by some of the characters since at that point of time their understanding of faith was different.
• Other than that, it’s a beautiful piece of work crafted with the essence of family love & pain, sibling love & conflict, emotional as well as responsible aspects of parenthood & how childhood affects the adult you become.
• For me, the title & how this title sought a place in the story & how it made me feel is what will remain with me. ♥
